Órla Keane is an experienced speaker, specialising in sustainability in interior design, visual merchandising, and interior design education. She is a design lecturer at the Dublin Institute of Technology School of the Creative Arts as well as internationally.
Órla Keane has several years of experience teaching design courses at universities in Dublin and Toronto, teaching across several levels in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Her specialist areas of teaching are in interior design, visual merchandising, and sustainable design.
Órla is always searching for new and innovative ways to engage and assess learners, particularly focussing on using technology to engage learners of all ages and diverse cultural backgrounds. She also plays a key role in curriculum development, and she has edited or co-authored a number of publications on sustainable interior design and design education.
Her latest research is focussed on the use of reflective blogs and the integration of ePortfolios into the design curriculum to enhance and mimic the team collaboration that takes place in the design industry.
Órla also still places great importance on her professional practice. She has worked as an interior designer and sustainability consultant on residential and commercial projects, and spent six years as Senior Designer with Arnotts of Dublin.
She continues to incorporate sustainable strategies into her retail design practice, particularly with regards to energy efficiency, which is one of the largest environmental challenges of the retail sector.
Órla currently lectures with the Design Faculty at the Dublin Institute of Technology School of the Creative Arts as well as being a visiting lecturer with various design institutions in Toronto, Canada.
