After a successful rugby career, Martin Bayfield has moved into broadcasting and presenting. A hugely entertaining awards host or MC, Martin never fails to captivate his audience.
At 6’10” Martin Bayfield was one of the tallest players in rugby, something he used to full advantage as one of England’s forwards. Before a serious neck injury prematurely ended his rugby career in 1998, he enjoyed a successful international career, winning 31 England caps and two Five/Six Nations Grand Slams from 1991 to 1996, as well as being selected to represent the British and Irish Lions in New Zealand in 1993.
After his injury, Martin’s charismatic personality and natural stage presence helped him to transition into the corporate events and functions sector – he is a popular after-dinner speaker, MC and auctioneer, with a reputation for exceptionally funny speeches. He is experienced at range of corporate events including gala and sports dinners, award ceremonies, company conferences and away-days.
Martin’s height also enabled him to serve as the body and stunt double for Robbie Coltrane’s character Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter franchise, as well as appearing as a cyclops in the film Wrath of the Titans.
Since his retirement from rugby, Martin has also moved into broadcasting. He was involved in the coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2011 for ITV and in mark 2012, Martin was confirmed as a regular on BBC1’s long-running show Crimewatch. In 2015, Martin was announced as part of ITV’s broadcast team for the Rugby World Cup in London, and he went on to be the main presenter for the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge 2015, broadcast live on ITV4. He was also announced as one of the rugby ambassadors for DHL throughout the Rugby World Cup 2015. He is a key presenter of BT Sport’s rugby coverage, contributing as a pitchside reporter, presenter and pundit. He worked as ITV’s England reporter in the 2016 Six Nations Tournament.
As a speaker, Martin is hugely entertaining, an accomplished host with impeccable comic timing.
